The First Heavy-Ion Therapy System in KOREA DK group made a contract as consortium for ‘Heavy-Ion Cancer Therapy’ in Korea. Yonsei University Health System (YUHS) signed a contract with Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions and DK Medical Solutions to adopt Toshiba’s heavy ion therapy system at Yonsei University in Seoul, Thursday. Heavy-Ion therapy is considered the best cancer treatment solution. The heavy
ion treatment systems accelerates the carbon ion beam to up to 70 percent of
the speed of light and exposes a concentrated radiation to the targeted cancer tissues
and destroy the DNA of Cancer cells and tissue only.
Only 10 Heavy-Ion therapies are installed in the world. The awarded heavy-ion therapy system will be equipped with one horizontally-fixed beam treatment room and two rotating gantry treatment rooms. The heavy-ion therapy facility with two rotating gantry treatment rooms will be the first in the world. With this system, Korean cancer patients will be avail to receive the state-of-the-art heavy ion therapy from 2022. |
